Ben Moolhuysen was born in The Netherlands and studied Drama and English Literature in England.
After his B.A. he travelled extensively and attended courses in Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Mexico.
Back in The Netherlands he worked for three years for the resident theatre company of Rotterdam before moving permanently to Italy in 1983.
The first years he worked mainly for theatre companies in a.o. Rome, Bologna and Milan while also writing for International magazines on theatre, design and architecture.
From about 1985 film started to occupy him more and more without leaving the theatre completely.
In 1999 and 2000 he designed set and costumes for theatre productions in Germany.
